So I have a little morning routine. I am the first one up, I go downstairs, clean up and do the dishes, clean the coffee pot and start a fresh pot of coffee, make Trevor’s breakfast and get him up and then I sit down at the table and drink my first cup of coffee listening to his expectations for the day. We then proceed to get ready for our day, his at school, mine at work. Sometimes RC joins us and when Chelsey was home, sometimes she would come down and have coffee with me. Then when I leave for work, I grab a coffee to go, drink a little in the car and the sometimes a little at work but it is usually cold by then and I am in my crazy work mode with no time for anything.
So this is how my coffee week went:
Monday – I flat out do not even remember because my day was out of control, but the fact that I do not remember tells me that I certainly did not get my allotted coffee!
Tuesday - I started my morning routine, was just getting ready to sit down with Trevor and my fresh cup of coffee when I realize that I had made a pot of fresh hot water and had not put coffee in the pot.
Wednesday – I was pouring vanilla creamer in my coffee so that it was perfect for my taste, not too much, just like I love it. I went to put the creamer back in the fridge, (it is the gigantic size because I hated running out), and the lid disconnected from the container, sticky vanilla creamer was all over my kitchen floor, which Pepper generously was trying to lick up as fast as possible. (I think she acquired the taste from the whips Sylvia got her when she was here with her dogs and spoiled her and took her to Starbucks.) One big mess, sticky floor, day started – truly do not even feel like coffee now.
Thursday – Racing to work again, did get the coffee at home but really craved just a little more, had coffee sitting at my desk but did not have time yet to have a swallow. A new friend, I had made, a fellow woman understanding my coffee needs and knowing about my coffee dilemmas throughout the week, surprised me. She brought me a beautiful cup of coffee into work. I was so ecstatic that I sat it on my desk and quickly removed my cold coffee so that it would not spill. As I turned my chair, the new beautiful coffee dumped, I mean dumped! Every last drop! You have to know the first thing I did was thank God, the universe, all my angel and every possible outside of me source, because it was all on the ground. Not one drop touched the 50 W-2s and tax documents that I was preparing to send to the IRS and the Utah State Tax Commission. Unbelievable, it could have been a complete disaster, and really logical I just cannot believe that not one drop was on the desk. So the only disaster was: I was teased by this beautiful coffee that was on the floor.
This brings us to Friday. My morning was perfect, coffee with Trevor and RC and then ready for work. I thought to myself: Self, are you going to take a coffee to go today? And then I responded no, I am going to treat myself and stop and buy a Latte! I really had planned on taking the day off but there is just still too much to be done so that was not realistic. I knew I did not have a lot of time so unfortunately could not go to Starbucks but would have to settle for the coffee shack in K-Mart parking lot. I ordered, realized I might not have the cash in the car, used Chelsey’s $2 bill, sorry Chelsey, and off I went with my Latte! I was driving and singing in the Red Focus at the top of my lungs “I Got My Coffee, I Got My Coffee, La La La La La!” Then I realized this and the happiness I felt and I started laughing hysterically! I had cracked myself up.
So the reason I felt like sharing this is because it is amazing how great it feels just to appreciate some small thing and recognize how it makes you happy. So I wish for each of you today that you find something like this, it could be as simple as a latte in a paper cup, appreciate it and hopefully it even makes you sing out loud!!! I know Sylvia and Debbie do share my passion for coffee, Sylvia with her Starbucks (I truly believe she should own one), and Debbie with her sugar-free hazelnut (never will forget Costa Rica or the time in Greene Texas) so I thought they might relate to my coffee week.
Love Katy
