describes below, preschool age. Her and her mom, Katy our outside hanging out on the trampoline. Katy, coincidentally, is on the phone with Debbie as Chelsey tries to get her attention to play with her. Chelsey says: “mommy, let’s pretend you’re the mommy and I’m the baby”, Katy, while still talking on the phone as well, replies “uh-huh ok”. Chelsey goes and does something, comes back, “mommy, now let’s pretend I’m the mommy and you’re the baby”. Katy, still talking, “uh-huh, ok”. A couple of minutes later Chelsey comes back “OK mommy, now lets pretend we’re sisters and we talk all the time”. Katy: “Umm Debbie, I gotta go!” This still makes me laugh today!
From Chelsey: I am so grateful for the memories I have of my Tante Debbie and I. There is nothing like having a Tante, and lucky for me I have two! Growing up I can remember many special times shared with my Tante, but a few especially stick out in my mind. When I was in preschool my parents went out of town and they asked Tante Debbie to watch me. I was so excited because I knew whenever one of the Tantes was going to watch me it was going to be a party the whole time! The secret is, I think Tante Debbie was just as excited as I was. Every morning she would wake me up and start getting me ready for school, and every morning she would ask me how I wanted her to do my hair. The first day I said, “Tante, I want pig tails!” and she gladly gave me pig tails. The second morning came along and excitedly she asked again how I wanted her to do my hair, and yet again I said, “pig tails”. Well let’s just say I wore pig tails every day that week... Although I think she was desperately hoping each morning I would say some new and exciting hair do, she gave me the best pig tails a little girl could ask for, five days in a row! I still remember how happy they made me all day long during school and how I would twirl them in my fingers so proud because MY Tante gave them to me! I also believe this was around the same time I started my obsession with a lot of ice in my water because that’s the way she liked it, and let’s face it who doesn’t want to be just like their Tante! To this day I love ice cold water. I am so grateful for both of my Tantes and all they have given me. They have shown me how to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment. They have shown me the love of family more than I could ever have hoped for. I feel so blessed to be a Tante myself now and I only hope that I can teach my little girl all they have taught me. I love you so much Tante Debbie and I cherish every moment that we spend together. I am so very proud to call you my Tante Debbie. I can’t express how thankful I am to have you in my life and to be a mentor that I can always look up to. Happy birthday Tante, I hope it’s one you will never forget!
